LI-8100 Automated Soil CO2 Flux System Software Receives DLL Error ‘user32.dll’ Message

Printable PDF: Resolving a DLL Error

Instructions for correcting this error.

LI-COR is aware of a Windows error message that may be encountered while attempting to connect to the LI-8100 Windows Interface Software (Version 2.0). This is the software typically used with the LI-8150 Multiplexing System.

Microsoft began pushing a new Windows XP update beginning in April of 2007 (Microsoft XP Update KB925902). As a result of this update, when a User attempts to start the LI-8100 Windows Interface Software (Version 2.0 used with the Multiplexer) the following error message appears: "The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly"...or similar. The software application will not run as a result of this error message.

This problem arises after Microsoft update 925902 and update 928843 are installed. These updates, when installed together, cause a conflict between two files. By removing one of the updates the conflict is corrected and the system will run normally. Since this problem was discovered, Microsoft has also released a 'Hotfix' for this issue (935448). This 'Hotfix' from Microsoft was automatically 'pushed' (loaded onto User's computers) through 'automatic updates' and can fix the above mentioned problem. However, depending on a User's computer settings, this fix may not have been pushed through as scheduled.

To solve this issue: the Microsoft Hotfix can be downloaded from a Microsoft website: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/ We have installed this update here at LI-COR and know it works.
